What to pack for an Australian catamaran charter

A useful packing framework for day sails and overnight catamaran charters in Australian conditions.

Pack for exposure, limited storage and the actual trip length. The operator’s vessel-specific list should always take priority, but this framework helps you ask what is already aboard.

01

Use soft, compact luggage

Soft bags are easier to stow than rigid suitcases. Bring layers that dry quickly, secure footwear if requested, a hat with a reliable strap and a light warm layer for wind or evenings.

  • Soft bag
  • Sun-protective clothing
  • Non-slip footwear
  • Light weather layer
02

Protect people and devices

Bring personal medication in its original packaging and tell the operator about relevant medical or mobility needs. Use waterproof pouches for phones, documents and chargers. Ask whether mains power or USB charging is available throughout the trip.

  • Medication and prescriptions
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Waterproof phone pouch
  • Sunglasses strap
03

Separate a day sail from an overnight trip

A day charter may need little more than weather protection and personal essentials. An overnight trip adds sleepwear, toiletries and clothing for changing conditions, but the boat may already supply linen and towels. Confirm before packing duplicates.

  • Linen and towels supplied?
  • Food and drinking water supplied?
  • Snorkelling or activity gear supplied?
  • Any prohibited items?
04

Leave the wrong items ashore

Ask about glass, hard suitcases, personal cooking gear, fishing equipment and aerosols before bringing them. Space and safety policies differ by operator and vessel.
